DNV Energo, Dubnica nad Váhom – Control system for cooling water pump station
Company Aplik produced and installed switchboards for the automatic control of a cooling water pump station for company Energo in Dubnica nad Váhom. The pump station, using 5 water pumps, supplies devices which use water in metal hardening processes. There are 5 pumps, two of them are controlled by variable speed drives (VSDs), the others are without VSDs. One pump is used as a backup in case of power failure. The control system was designed with aim to save electricity, which is achieved by measuring the pressure in water pipes. Based on the pressure in water pipes, individual pumps are connected successively. As the first one, a pump with VSD is connected. When this pump reaches 100% of its rated power, the control system automatically connects a pump without VSD and the pump with VSD then decreases its operating speed to achieve the required pressure level in the pipe system. If the required pressure is not achieved using these two pumps, the other pump with VSD and possibly the fourth pump without VSD are connected. Energy savings are achieved by the two pumps with VSD since these are able to decrease their power, thereby consuming less electricity. The fifth pump is used as a back-up for power cuts. This pump is powered by another source than the other pumps, and it is thus able to pump water in case of power failure. This cooling water has to be supplied into the pipe system without interruption because without it the process of hardening would not be successful.

DNV Energo, Dubnica nad Váhom – Control system for water pump station
Company Aplik produced and installed switchboards for the automatic control of a pump station for company Energo in Dubnica nad Váhom. The pump station consists of two water wells, a re-pumping tank, pumps and a water reservoir. Company Aplik developed a control system which works as follows. In each water well the water level is measured. Based on the water level in each well the water is pumped into the re-pumping tank. If the water levels in the water wells are approximately the same, pumping alternates, if the water level is high in one of the wells, the water is pumped from this well. Two pumps are pumping water from each water well to the re-pumping tank. Four pumps are pumping water from the re-pumping tank to the water reservoir using variable speed drives. The pumps in the re-pumping tank are controlled automatically, and the control system ensures the regulation of their quarter-hour electricity consumption. In the water reservoir the water level is controlled by analog signal. The control system tries to optimize the regulation of water level in the water reservoir with the operation of pumps and the regulation of their quarter-hour electricity consumption in order to save energy.
